Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy urges the Reds to move for Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele this summer.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged the Reds to move for Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele in this summer's transfer window.

Dembele is seemingly available for transfer ahead of the 2019-20 campaign with Barca already signing Antoine Griezmann and reportedly pursuing a return for Neymar.

Murphy has said that the France international "would be a fantastic signing" for Jurgen Klopp's side, with the 2018 World Cup winner capable of taking Roberto Firmino's spot in the first XI.

"Dembele would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool. He's not had the best time at Barcelona, but clearly has an abundance of talent and the ability to win games by himself," Murphy told bwin.

"If he can recapture his belief in his ability, then Liverpool would have a formidable front three with him, Mane and Salah. When playing to his potential, I think he would edge Firmino out the first team.

"Firmino is the type of player that would raise his own game and everyone's around him if Dembele came in to the team. He'll fight for his place week in week out and if you're not giving your all on the pitch, then Firmino will be right there to take it."

Dembele has scored 18 times in 65 appearances for the Spanish champions since making the move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

The 22-year-old has a contract at Camp Nou until the end of the 2021-22 season.
