Harry Redknapp: 'Loic Remy has no fitness issues'

Loic Remy's move to Liverpool did not collapse on medical grounds, according to Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has dismissed speculation that Loic Remy's move to Liverpool fell through on fitness grounds.

It appeared over the weekend that the France international was on the verge of completing a switch to Anfield, only for the Reds to withdraw their offer.

Rumours suggested that the 27-year-old had failed a medical, but Redknapp has insisted that there are no issues with Remy's fitness levels.

"I don't see how he has failed a medical. It doesn't make sense. He had a stringent medical here, one at Marseille, one at Newcastle and one with France before the World Cup," Redknapp told reporters. "He's never had a problem with his fitness. You could not meet a fitter lad. There can't be any issue with his fitness.

"I can't see a medical reason. There must be other reasons. [Failing a medical] is not possible. There has to be another reason. He has never failed a medical before. He's never had a problem and didn't miss a game at Newcastle. They must have changed their mind or decided to go in another direction."

When asked about Remy's future, Redknapp went on to confirm that he would like the centre-forward to remain at Loftus Road.

"He will come back here. Their loss is our gain. I have got a fantastic striker capable of scoring 20 goals in the Premier League," he added.

"We need him now to come in here and get 20 goals. So from a selfish point of view I have got a great striker. If he is here we will be delighted to have him back."

Remy signed for the R's in January of last year.
