Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne admits that, while it is nice to be recognised with individual honours, he is more interested in winning titles this season.

Kevin De Bruyne has insisted that winning major honours with Manchester City this season is far more important than any individual accolades that come his way.

The Belgium international has been tipped to challenge for the PFA Player of the Year award come next spring following his prolific start to the 2017-18 campaign.

De Bruyne, voted Player of the Year while at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga two years ago, already has five assists and a goal to his name in eight Premier League outings this term.

After recent praise from Man City boss Pep Guardiola and Stoke City counterpart Mark Hughes, the 26-year-old claims that there is still more to come.

"It's nice to have it but I prefer it after we have a title," he told ESPN. "When I got it in Germany, it was a great honour but I wasn't happy that before we won the cup in Germany, we were second in Germany at the time.

"After that if you win it, it's a great recognition it means that it will be forever there and that you did well. I'm just growing on what I've done the last years. I was playing constantly at a good level but I think the team is now playing at a very high level."

De Bruyne has also played a direct part in three goals in three Champions League appearances for City this season.
