Carlo Ancelotti: "Some players like competition, others want to earn more money"

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti questions Angel di Maria's motives for joining Manchester United.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has taken a departing swipe at new Manchester United winger Angel di Maria.

The former Chelsea boss was asked about outgoing players in his press conference today, discussing Xabi Alonso's switch to Bayern Munich and Di Maria's move to Man United.

Ancelotti revealed that he did not want either to leave the European Champions, and on Alonso, the Italian expressed his surprise.

"It surprised us," he told reporters. "Everything looked quiet and settled, and then suddenly he announced he was leaving; but we owe him all our respects for everything he did here."

Then, without referring to him by name, Ancelotti subtly addressed Di Maria's move to United.

"Some players like competition, others want to earn more money. If a player no longer has the motivation to play for the biggest club in the world, I have no problem in letting him leave."

Di Maria moved to United in a British-record £59.7m move.
