Jamie Carragher: 'David Moyes will want to keep Wayne Rooney in team'

Carragher: 'Moyes will want Rooney stay'
Jamie Carragher believes that new Manchester United manager David Moyes will want Wayne Rooney in his team next season.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United manager David Moyes will want Wayne Rooney to stay at Old Trafford.

The England international has been touted as a possible summer exit following Sir Alex Ferguson's confirmation that the forward requested a transfer towards the end of last season.

While a move abroad is believed to be an option for Rooney, Carragher believes that the frontman is best suited in the Premier League.

"I don't think Wayne Rooney needs to move on at all," the Daily Star quotes Carragher is saying. "He's playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world in one of the best leagues in the world.

"The Premier League suits Wayne Rooney and the way he plays the game. Just because someone is a top player in the Premier League doesn't mean he will be a top player in another league.

"I don't think David Moyes will want to come into Manchester United and lose Wayne Rooney. He will want him in his team."

Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are among those said to be interested in Rooney.
