Juan Mata: 'Champions Cup win would lift confidence'

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata feels that a win over Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup would lift the club ahead of the new season.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has expressed his belief that it would be a good start for the club under new boss Louis van Gaal to win the International Champions Cup.

The Red Devils face Liverpool in the final of the pre-season competition later today following their victory over Real Madrid on Saturday.

The Spaniard feels that winning the tournament by defeating one of their Premier League rivals would give everyone at the club a confidence boost heading into the new campaign.

Mata told the club's official website: "It's been a great tour and I think we've played very well in some of the games.

"We're still trying to adapt to the new system, the new way of playing that the manager has brought with him.

"It would be very, very nice to win this important tournament. I know it's only a friendly tournament but it's important to get off to a good start before the season."

United are yet to be beaten under Van Gaal during their pre-season campaign.
