Parma, Chievo play out opening-day stalemate

Parma and Chievo spurn a host of chances as both sides draw a blank in a frustrating start to the Serie A campaign.

Parma and Chievo were both forced to settle for a point in their Serie A opener tonight, as Antonio Mirante and Christian Puggioni worked hard at either end to keep the game goalless.

Marco Parolo could only send a tame shot towards goal as Parma failed to turn possession into clear-cut chances early on, while at the other end Perparim Hetemaj's strike from distance forced Mirante to hold under pressure.

Cyril Thereau had the visitors' best chance with a header from close range, but failed to direct it into either corner as Mirante made another strong stop.

Parma threatened through debutant Antonio Cassano and Amauri late on, but neither man could make the difference in a frustrating stalemate as Jonathan Biabiany's header was parried by Puggioni.
