Bruno Alves: 'Portugal will rely on Cristiano Ronaldo at World Cup'

Bruno Alves admits that Portugal are relying on Cristiano Ronaldo to be on top form at the World Cup.

Portugal defender Bruno Alves has admitted that they are relying heavily on Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of their World Cup campaign.

Ronaldo has been battling a number of injury problems in the build-up to the tournament in Brazil, but he is expected to face Germany in the opener on Monday, and Alves insists that he will be key to their chances.

"The greatest player in world football had to be present at the World Cup and he will help the team achieve our aims," the 32-year-old told Antena 1. "We rely on our captain Ronaldo, always.

"The rest of the squad are all competing for a place in the starting lineup and we are all motivated. We've arrived in Brazil in good shape for the World Cup."

Portugal will also meet the USA and Ghana in Group G.
