Giovanni Trapattoni expects Shay Given to face Hungary

Giovanni Trapattoni expects goalkeeper Shay Given to be fit for Euro 2012, as well as the Republic of Ireland's friendly with Hungary on Monday.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni is confident that goalkeeper Shay Given will be fit for Euro 2012.

The 36-year-old Aston Villa stopper had been doubtful for the tournament after picking up a knee injury in training.

However, Given has overcome that injury and, despite missing training earlier today with blisters, he is expected to face Hungary in Budapest on Monday.

Trapattoni said: "It was better to let him have a rest because he has worked too much, and it is better that he is fresh, and also mentally fresh.

"It is true that we have a possibility to call another, but it would be better if we finished this friendly game without a problem."

Given has been capped 121 times by Ireland.
