Ronald Koeman confident of keeping Jay Rodriguez

Ronald Koeman is confident that Southampton will keep Jay Rodriguez as the striker closes in on his return to action.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that he expects Jay Rodriguez to stay at the club.

Rodriguez has not played since damaging knee ligaments just over a year ago, but the England international has still been linked with moves to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer.

However, Koeman is hopeful that talks between the forward and the club will result in a new deal.

"Jay is talking to the club and is a good player. I think he will be an important player for the next season. If he stays I think that is a good signal to the club, to everybody," the Dutchman told reporters.

Rodriguez has just one year remaining on his current contract.
