Athetic Bilbao defender Javi Martinez is confident that Spain can win Euro 2012 even without injured Barcelona pair Carles Puyol and David Villa.

Athletic Bilbao defender Javi Martinez believes that Spain will still be a huge threat at Euro 2012 even without Carles Puyol and David Villa.

The current European championships will head into the tournament this weekend without skipper Puyol, as well as Villa due to a broken leg.

Despite the pair's absence, Martinez is confident that Spain are still the team to beat at the elite European competition.

"Those who have been selected can do as well as they did - why not better?" said Martinez. "With the help of everybody, I think that their absence will not be noticed."

Spain are favourites to retain the trophy this month.
