Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is in contention to feature against Newport County on Saturday after revealing that he is 'feeling fit and strong'.

Toby Alderweireld has revealed that he is feeling 'fit and strong' and is now awaiting the green light from manager Mauricio Pochettino to make his return to action.

The Belgian centre-back, out since pulling up with a hamstring strain in the 3-1 win over Real Madrid 12 weeks ago, returned to the training ground in December and has slowly built up his fitness.

Spurs boss Pochettino revealed last week that Alderweireld is on course to return to action slightly ahead of schedule, with the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Newport County being pencilled in as his likely comeback game.

Speaking to Sky Sports News on Tuesday afternoon, the 28-year-old confirmed that he is now ready to make his eagerly-awaited return.

"I feel good. I feel fit. I'm strong," he said. "I feel ready to give 100% again, like I always do. I worked very hard to come back to the training group as quickly as possible. Not one thing in my head is doubting about the injury.

"Now it's up to me to prove that I'm ready again to the manager. It's always up to the manager [if I play]. I'm looking forward to give my all on the pitch."

Alderweireld had featured 15 times in all competitions prior to limping down the tunnel at Wembley Stadium on November 1.
