Former Tottenham Hotspur winger David Ginola urges the club to "break the bank" to keep Gareth Bale at White Hart Lane this summer.

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger David Ginola has warned the club that they can not afford to lose Gareth Bale.

The Welshman, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, has been courted by many of Europe's top clubs including Real Madrid.

However, Ginola thinks that Spurs should pay whatever necessary to keep the winger.

"They are going to have offers on the table," said Ginola. "But if you want to keep being successful you have to keep your best assets, and Bale is one of them.

"Spurs have made mistakes in the past selling the likes of [Dimitar] Berbatov, [Luka] Modric and [Rafael] van der Vaart. Let's not do mistakes anymore.

"You have to break the bank and spend it on Bale."

Bale, who has scored 27 goals this season for club and country, signed a new deal at White Hart Lane last summer.
