Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly furious with Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero following the ugly scenes in Argentina's clash with Brazil amid a COVID row.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly become furious after two of their players, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso, were at the centre of the suspension of Argentina's World Cup Qualifying clash with Brazil on Sunday.

The pair started Sunday's game in Sao Paulo alongside Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the game was quickly stopped when Brazilian health authorities stormed the pitch after five minutes.

The hosts said that the trio and Aston Villa winger Emiliano Buendia, who was not involved in the starting squad, had breached quarantine rules after arriving in Brazil from England, and the game was later suspended as Argentina left the pitch.

With an agreement yet to be reached by the South American authorities over further action, the London club have been left in the dark and are reportedly furious with Romero and Lo Celso alongside Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez, as the trio were not granted permission to leave on international duty.

According to Evening Standard, the Lilywhites are set to fine the three players, while it is unclear whether the Argentinian duo will return to England in time for Tottenham's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Romero arrived in North London from Italian outfit Atalanta in the summer and is yet to start a Premier League game, with that wait potentially continuing as rumours arise around the Tottenham duo and Martinez and Buendia flying to Croatia for a 10-day training camp to avoid isolating in a quarantine hotel upon their return to England.
