Steven Fletcher expects Sunderland departure

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher admits that he is unsure of his future, but insists that there has been no contact with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher has admitted that he does not know where his future lies beyond this summer.

The 29-year-old joined the Black Cats in 2012 but spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille and is expected to leave the Stadium of Light when his contract expires this month.

Fletcher revealed that there had been talks over a potential move elsewhere, but also confirmed that there were no solid offers on the table just yet.

"I don't actually know what my situation is now. My contract is up so I am currently looking for a team. I think that [Sunderland] chapter is over with. I enjoyed my time there but obviously I went out on loan," he told reporters.

"There have been a few people speaking to me and stuff but until there is actually an offer right in front of me I am not going to take anything for granted. I am training hard and staying fit."

The Scotland international has been linked with a move to Celtic under new manager Brendan Rodgers, but he insists that there has been no contact with the Premiership champions.

"I don't know, they obviously have a new manager so that is up to him. But I haven't had any contact with Celtic," he added.

"I know everyone likes to think I have, even in recent times when I have been linked with them there has never been any solid connection with me and them. I am going to take myself away with my family and relax a little while before I start thinking about anything else."

Fletcher scored 23 goals in 102 appearances for Sunderland.
