Barcelona are reportedly contemplating whether to make an offer for Antonio Rudiger and Fabian Schar.

At a time when Barcelona are dealing with significant financial issues, Ronald Koeman is having to make do without the services of key centre-back Gerard Pique.

The long-term injury to the Spain international is expected to lead to the Catalan giants bringing in a fresh option during the January transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Rudiger and Schar, of Chelsea and Newcastle United respectively, have been placed on Barcelona's shortlist.

Neither player is regarded as a first-choice option at their current club, something which may play into Barcelona's favour if they attempt to negotiate a loan deal.

The report adds that Manchester City are not prepared to sell Eric Garcia, a long-term target of the La Liga side.

Barcelona 'desperate to sell Philippe Coutinho before next Liverpool payout'

Barcelona are reportedly keen to part ways with Philippe Coutinho in January as they bid to avoid more payouts to Liverpool.

While Barcelona shelled out a large portion of the £142m fee for Coutinho up front, some of the money is due to be paid in instalments and add-ons.

Given the current financial situation at Camp Nou, club officials have been continuing with attempts to sell the Brazilian playmaker as soon as possible.

According to Sport, they wish to ensure that Coutinho does not reach 100 appearances, the amount which would trigger another clause in his contract.

With Coutinho currently on 88 outings for the Catalan giants, Liverpool would receive an extra £18.2m if he features on 12 more occasions.

The issue effectively leaves manager Ronald Koeman having to manage Coutinho's game time unless a resolution can be found.
