Rory McIlroy: "It's the best I've ever been"

Rory McIlroy admits that he feels in the form of his life ahead of this week's USPGA Championship after wins at the British Open and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Rory McIlroy has admitted that he feels in the form of his life heading into this week's USPGA Championship.

The Northern Irishman has won the British Open and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in the last fortnight to climb back to the top of the world rankings.

McIlroy triumphed at the Major in 2012, the same year in which he finished first in both the US and European money lists, but the 25-year-old believes that he is in better shape now than he was two years ago.

"This is better. I'm more in control of my ball and my ball flight. Mentally, I'm really sharp," he told reporters.

"It was the most comfortable I've ever felt trying to close out a golf tournament out there [on Sunday]. I felt normal. I felt like it was the first round or the second round. It didn't feel like a fourth round.

"When I say mentally it's the best I've ever been, I didn't get ahead of myself. I didn't start to think about my score. I didn't think about where I was in the tournament. I just kept playing my shot after shot after shot."

Bookmakers make McIlroy, who is a three-time /major winner, the favourite for the event at Valhalla.
