Andy Murray has revealed that it is his aim to become world number one.
The Scot has claimed that his narrow defeat in the Australian Open semi-final to Novak Djokovic proves that he is closing the gap.
With his new coach Ivan Lendl, Murray has said that he will work on overtaking Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, as well as trying to claim his first Grand Slam title.
"I think it was important to lay down a marker to the other top three that I am ¬improving and getting close to winning a Slam," said the 24-year-old.
"It was so close. But I need to make that last little jump and I'm much closer than I was at this stage last year.
"I want to get to No.1. That's one of my goals this year and I'll try my best to do it."
Murray is the current British number one.
