Caroline Wozniacki withdraws from this month's French Open due to an ankle injury.

Caroline Wozniacki has withdrawn from the French Open due to an ankle injury.

The former world number one, whose best finish at Roland Garros is the quarter-finals, has been troubled with the problem for some time.

The Dane was forced to pull out of recent tournaments in Madrid and Rome, and it has now been confirmed by the WTA that the 25-year-old will not compete in the second Grand Slam of the year, which gets underway on May 22.

The governing body tweeted: "@CaroWozniacki has withdrawn from @rolandgarros due to a right ankle injury. #RG16"

Wozniacki is currently 34th in the world rankings.
