The Czech ace remains on a collision course to face tournament favourite and world number one Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals, thanks to a 6-1 2-6 6-3 6-4 victory at Roland Garros.
Berdych held throughout the opening set to get off to a strong start in Paris, although his opponent did manage to take the second with two breaks of serve.
Any hope that the Tunisian had of pulling off an upset soon faded, however, as he let the opening four games of a potentially pivotal third set pass him by, allowing Berdych to move ahead with his fourth set point.
Berdych again held his service game throughout the fourth and final set, sealing his passage through to round three in a little over two hours.
