Jade Lally unlikely to feature in World Athletics Championships

Despite winning the British Championships, discus thrower Jade Lally does not expect to compete at the upcoming World Athletics Championships.

Great Britain's Jade Lally has conceded that she is unlikely to participate at the next month's World Athletics Championships.

The 28-year-old threw a 57.37m to win the discus event at the British Championships in Birmingham this afternoon.

However, having not long returned to action following illness, Lally has admitted that the meeting in Beijing has probably come too soon.

"It's my first competition since mid-May, so I'm happy with the win and it was a good distance. I definitely happy to win after a long break," she said.

"I had an operation six weeks ago so I need to find competitions. I hope I have a chance for Beijing but it's probably out of the question. I'm looking at the bigger picture after being ill, [the Olympics in] Rio are the bigger goal."

Lally was a bronze medallist at last year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
