Billy Joe Saunders: 'Determination will decide Andy Lee fight'

British middleweight Billy Joe Saunders believes that "heart, determination and grit" will decide who prevails from his WBO title encounter with Andy Lee.

British middleweight Billy Joe Saunders has insisted that he has no regrets after twice stepping aside from world title fights.

Last year, Saunders opted to face Chris Eubank Jr instead of meeting Matt Korobov for the vacant WBO belt, before then allowing Andy Lee to take a fight with Peter Quillin in New York in the spring.

However, the British, Commonwealth and European champion will now get his opportunity to face Lee in Limerick on September 19, and the former Olympian is anticipating a closely-fought contest.

The 25-year-old told reporters: "In boxing, I think that you have to do what is financially right for your family so I agreed to step aside for the Korobov fight and Andy went and grabbed it with both hands.

"He then went and got a draw with Peter Quillin, and I personally thought he could have nicked the fight. I think he deserves to be champion and that it will take a lot to change that, but I will give everything.

"I think this fight will come down to heart, determination and grit, and the fans are going to be in for a treat."

Saunders is unbeaten in 21 professional fights, while Lee has won 34 of his 37 outings in the paid ranks.
