Australia clinch ODI series by securing three-wicket victory over South Africa

Australia clinch the one-day series over South Africa with a dramatic three-wicket triumph in the fourth match.

Australia have wrapped up the one-day series over South Africa by securing a dramatic three-wicket triumph in the fourth match with one game to spare.

Australia were given a target of 268 runs from 50 overs after AB de Villiers guided the Proteas to 267-8 in their innings.

Aaron Finch and David Warner opened the batting for the Aussies, but they were dealt an early blow in their reply when the latter was dismissed lbw by Kyle Abbott after hitting just four runs.

Shane Watson (19) and Finch (22) were the next to fall as Australia went three wickets down before reaching 50 on the field at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Dale Steyn and Wayne Parnell impressed for South Africa by taking two wickets apiece, but Steve Smith's form gave Australia a boost as he reached a century.

Matthew Wade managed to reach a half century before getting sent back to the pavilion by Parnell after hitting 52 off 59 deliveries.

Smith was eventually bowled out by Robin Peterson after hitting 104 runs, but Australia needed just one run to win the match and the series, which they were able to secure with six balls remaining.
