Josh Hazlewood completed a five-wicket haul on debut as Australia fought back to bowl out India for 408 on the second morning of the second Test in Brisbane.
After starting the day on 311-4, the tourists were only able to add 10 more runs before losing Ajinkya Rahane when he edged Hazlewood through to Brad Haddin.
Rohit Sharma (32) joined Rahane back in the dressing room after edging Shane Watson to the diving Steve Smith at second slip.
MS Dhoni (33) and Ravichandran Ashwin (35) combined to steady the ship with a 57-run partnership, but the latter could only offer an edge to another Hazlewood outswinger as Watson took a comfortable catch at slip.
Indian skipper Dhoni followed two overs later when he became Hazlewood's (5-68) fifth victim of the innings as he edged to Haddin while looking to leave a teasing delivery from the seamer.
Varun Aaron (4) was removed for four when Nathan Lyon caught the inside edge, with substitute fielder Marnus Labuschnage diving forward to take a stunning catch at short leg.
After claiming an extension, Australia wrapped up the innings when Umesh Yadav (9) lofted Lyon to Chris Rogers at deep mid-wicket.
