Live Commentary: England vs. New Zealand - Third one-day international - as it happened

Good afternoon everyone. England fans may be struggling to get excited for the final match of this series but Alastair Cook will know the importance of claiming a win today. The Champions Trophy begins tomorrow and the hosts will not want to head into the tournament on the back of a series whitewash.

BREAKING NEWS: New Zealand win the toss and will bowl first.

ENGLAND: Cook, Bell, Trott, Root, Morgan, Bopara, Buttler, Bresnan, Broad, Tredwell, Finn

Four changes for England then, with Bopara, Tredwell, Finn and Broad all coming back into the side. I'd expect Anderson and Swann to return against Australia on Saturday when England begin their Champions Trophy campaign. Dernbach and Woakes both miss out following a difficult couple of games.

NEW ZEALAND: Guptill, Ronchi, Williamson, Taylor, Munro, B. McCullum, Franklin, N. McCullum, Southee, Mills, McClenaghan

Just the two changes for New Zealand, who go into this match feeling pretty confident following those comfortable victories in the first two games. Southee and Munro come in for Elliott and Bracewell.

It's very cloudy around Trent Bridge today, which would probably explain McCullum's decision to bowl first. The Black Caps skipper told Sky Sports: "The pitch looks good and we feel chasing here is better, it's normally quite a tough ground to defend. It's important we continue to play the cricket of late, the result at the end of this game is of huge importance to us and we can head into the Champions Trophy with confidence."

Cook: "Great to have Broad and Finn back from their injuries, Swanny and Jimmy are rested. We haven't been too far off in certain aspects but if we want to go places we do need to improve. Momentum is always talked about when you're losing, you notice it more than when you're winning."

There's plenty of concern for England's batting lineup at the moment. We all know there's quality in that team but players like Morgan, Buttler, and the returning Bopara, must begin to prove their class if England are going to challenge for the Champions Trophy.

The pitch looks good at Trent Bridge and Cook will be hoping that either he or Bell make a big score like Guptill has done for the Kiwis in this series.

Both teams are out in the middle now and we're ready to begin. It will be McClenaghan who opens the bowling.

McClenaghan starts very full to Cook and there seems to be a hint of swing in the air for the bowler. Cook drives midway through the over and the ball is close to sneaking through the gate but the home captain survives. Good start from McClenaghan, with just a wide-ball being added to the total.

Mills, who plays his 150th ODI today, opens the bowling alongside McClenaghan. The bowler begins with five dot balls but a possible maiden is ruined when Bell cuts a shorter delivery away for two runs.

Cook stays back in the crease and is hit on the pads. The umpire raises the finger but the England skipper decides to review the decision. I'm not quite sure why though as Hawkeye proves that everything was going the bowler's way. Cook departs, great start for the Black Caps.

Trott is the new batsman and in typical style he makes the bowler wait before leaving the ball outside off-stump. England's number three gets off the mark with a single to third man at the end of the over.

Very, very strange review from Cook. It looked out to the naked eye and I'm not quite sure what he thought would save him there.

Trott looks a man in form as he middles a couple of defensive shots during the early parts of the over. He's happy to leave the swinging ball outside off-stump and it's a maiden. Great start for the tourists.

Trust me guys, it's not a Test match. McClenaghan breezes through another over and it's a maiden. Four runs from five overs for England.

Much better from England as Trott guides the ball behind square on the off-side before racing through for a quick two runs. The umpire has a look at the direct hit from the throw but Trott was clearly safe. Just two from the over though.

First bowling change of the day as Southee comes on for McClenaghan. Bell slices a drive through cover to pick up two early in the over before reaching the rope for the first time with a lofted shot past point for four. The batsman miscues an attempted flick into the leg-side before staring at the pitch in amazement.

Franklin comes into the attack for his first bowl of the day. Trott is eager to work the ball on the leg-side but picks out the fielder before getting off strike with a quick single to mid-off. It's a good start for the medium pace bowler, who concede just one run in the over.

Mills attempts a bouncer but his pace is not too threatening and Trott can pull the ball away for four runs. Franklin does superbly at mid-wicket to block Trott's route to another boundary on the leg-side. New Zealand continue to impress in the field, with McCullum diving to his right at gully to keep Trott on strike. However, a fumble at mid-off allows Trott to sneak two runs at the end of the over.

Much better signs for England as Bell takes advantage of a wider one from Southee to drill the ball through extra cover for four. Bell guides the ball through mid-wicket and the pace of the outfield means the batsman reaches the rope once again. A problem with the ball delays the game and the umpires decide they need a replacement.

Trott uses his feet to attack Mills early in the over but he can only pick out the fielder at backward point. The bowler finds a bit of extra bounce due to his height and he almost finds the edge when Trott flirts outside off-stump. An on-drive beats Nathan McCullum at mid-on and the batsman earns four runs towards the end of the over before sneaking a single to keep the strike.

Mills isn't happy with the ball at the beginning of his sixth over but the umpires tell him to continue with his spell. Trott finds a single on the leg-side to give the strike to Bell, who almost chops on with a late defensive shot. A thick inside edge brings another run and Trott adds one more with an open-faced shot to third man.

Nathan McCullum is into the attack for the first time and he begins his spell confidently. England pick up just three runs in the spinner's over.

Bell takes a couple of forward steps to drive a full toss to the fielder at wide mid-off. Franklin gets a hand on a straight drive to stop Bell from picking up more than a single. Trott shows some attacking intent as he dances down the pitch to smash the ball straight over the bowler for four. A flick off the hip brings two more and Bell will steal the strike thanks to a single to deep mid-wicket.

A nudge into the leg-side allows Bell to reach the non-striker's end at the beginning of Southee's new spell. Trott plays the pull shot on the front foot but fails to pick the gap in the deep and can only score one. The pressure is put on N. McCullum at mid-off when Bell calls for a single and the fielder cannot react quickly enough to put the batsmen under pressure. Two more means that it's five from Southee's over.

Bell strikes the ball powerfully through the leg-side for two to bring up the half century for England before crunching a lofted drive over the close fielders for four more. Both players take singles later in the over. Much better from England in the last few overs.

Trott fires a cut shot straight to Williamson at point before finding the same fielder with a guided shot a ball later. Gorgeous shot from Trott as he opens up the leg-side to pick up four through mid-wicket. A push to third man means Trott will keep the strike, time for a drinks break.

England looked very nervous early in the game but Bell and Trott have got the hosts back on track at Trent Bridge. New Zealand will be desperate to break this partnership soon.

Trott flicks the ball through mid-wicket for two as McClenaghan starts a new spell. A miscued shot drops just short of mid-off but Trott does well to sneak a single. Bell chips one short of the fielder at mid-on and picks up a run for his trouble. One more single is added, five from the over.

McClenaghan takes another crucial wicket to end the promising England partnership. The bowler gets one to straighten and hit Trott on the pads. The umpire quickly raising the finger and Joe Root must come out to the middle.

Root defends his first three balls before getting off the mark with two through mid-wicket. Good over from McClenaghan. Bell surely must make a big score for England now.

Bell pushes the ball to long-on for a single and Root adds another to mid-wicket. The former picks the gap well at the end of the over to sneak one more. Good bowling from McCullum.

Bell picks up two at the beginning of a new over and adds one more with a flick to fine-leg. Big slice of luck for Root, whose miscued pull shot evades the stumps and Ronchi to give the batsman four runs.

The England duo both look eager to take advantage of the singles down the ground as four runs come from the first four balls. It's five in total from the over but neither player is willing to attack McCullum.

Southee is back for a new spell and Bell immediately takes a single to move to 40. Root cuts the ball between two fielders for one run. Bell's cut shot drops short of the fielder at point and that allows the batsman to score another run. Three from the over.

Bell sweeps McCullum powerfully but can only collect a single. Root takes a big risk when he chips the ball into the leg-side but Guptill puts down the catch when he dives to his left. After making the necessary ground, Guptill will be disappointed not to take the catch. Two from the over.

Root steers the ball through the off-side for a single. Bell nudges a slower ball from Southee to square-leg for another run. Root continues to take on the two fielders at gully as he cuts the ball through the small gap for two more. The same batsman earns another two through mid-wicket, six from the over.

It's careful batting from England at the moment and they might have to think about accelerating soon. The run-rate is still under four an over at the halfway point.

The batsmen trade singles early in the over and Bell then finds two behind square on the off-side to bring up three figures for the hosts. Seven runs come in McCullum's over.

Williamson is thrown the ball for the first time today and he begins with a shorter ball that is cut away to deep cover for a single by Bell. An lbw appeal is quickly rejected by the umpire, with height looking to be the main issue. Root nudges a single to long-on and Bell then reaches FIFTY with another cut shot. The opener needs a score today and he'll know his job is far from over.

These two are combining well to find the gaps in the field but boundaries seem difficult to come by at the moment. Four scored in McCullum's over.

Bell drives the ball down the ground for a single and Root repeats the trick to give the strike back to his partner. Guptill fails in his attempts to stop Bell sneaking a single to mid-wicket before Root hurries another run to point. Bell frees his arms and drops to his knees to smash the ball through mid-wicket for four. Much better from the opener.

McCullum finds the perfect length to Root early in the over but the batsman manages to get out of the firing line with a flicked single to square-leg. Bell adds another to long-on but it's a good over from McCullum again.

Bell defends early in the over but he picks a slower ball, which is delivered at 58mph, to loft the ball over long-off for a big six. Root comes on strike following a single but quickly moves back to the quieter end with a run through mid-wicket.

Good cricket from Root as he steers the ball behind square on the off-side to collect three runs. Bell's single gives the strike back to Root, who is denied a boundary by some good fielding from Munro in the deep on the off-side. England take eight from the over. 18 left in the innings.

It's Munro's turn to have a bowl but he strays onto the pads at the beginning of the over to allow Bell to flick two to square-leg. A thick edge brings Root on strike but he finds another single on the leg-side. Bell takes advantage of a fuller ball to drive over cover for four. Two more follow, 10 from the over.

Root is eager to use his feet against Williamson but is frustrated early in the over. He finally picks a gap behind square on the leg-side to collect a single.

Bell calls for a single when the ball deflects off the bowler and Root struggles to make the ground. The replay shows just how well Ronchi does behind the stumps and Root is forced to head back inside after a long look at the replay. Good work from Guptill with the throw but Ronchi deserves most of the credit there.

Eoin Morgan is the new batsman but he's not on strike early in McClenaghan's new over. Bell drives the ball for two before taking advantage of a mistake form Southee to collect two more.

Bell ruins all of his good work as he drives the ball straight into the hands of McCullum at mid-off. It's a poor shot and Bell looks furious with himself as he walks off. Great time to remove the key man in this innings and New Zealand now have two new arrivals to bowl at.

Bopara is the newest batsman and he's content with defending his first two balls. McClenaghan has 3-20 now, England need something special from at least one of these two.

The powerplay has to be taken now and it couldn't have come at a better time for Brendon McCullum, who gives Williamson another bowl. Morgan and Bopara both find singles on the leg-side but it's just the two from the over. The Black Caps will be very happy at the moment.

Bopara drives at a wider ball from McClenaghan and a thick edge gives him two to third man. Big slice of luck for the batsman to balls later when he nudges the ball into the air, however, Guptill can't make the ground to take a difficult catch. McClenaghan then gets a hand on another aerial shot from Bopara but can't hold on. Scratchy stuff from the new batsman, three from the over.

A single from Bopara hands the strike to Morgan, who takes a big risk when he lofts the ball high into the air on the off-side. The ball drops safely, luckily for England. Good work from Williamson, who adjusts his length well throughout the over. Four from the over.

Southee is back into the attack for a new spell. Morgan takes a single early in the over and Bopara adds three more with a lofted drive through extra cover. Morgan drills the ball through the off-side for another run and Bopara is gifted two due to a mistake from McClenaghan.

Singles won't be enough for England at this stage of the innings. Morgan and Bopara both hurry a run each to point before the former nudges another into the leg-side. Superb fielding from B. McCullum to collect the ball and hit the stumps in one smooth motion from cover but a quick replay shows Bopara did make his ground. Just 20 runs from the batting powerplay.

Bopara starts Southee's over with a single to third man. The bowler pushes the ball to far away from Morgan and the deliver is given as a wide. Southee continues to bowl wider to Morgan, who struggles to reach a ball and pick up a single past point.

Morgan rocks back to cut the ball to deep cover for a single but he may start to think about going for some big shots soon. Bopara thinks about slog-sweeping but is forced to settle for two when Williamson drops his length slightly. The Essex ace finds another single on the leg-side but these two just can't find the rope at the moment.

Mills returns for a new spell with eight overs left in the innings. Bopara flicks the first ball away for a single. Morgan is forced to stretch for another wider ball but he does well to fire the ball through the off-side for four. The umpires are worried by that strategy and Mills is punished for a wide just a ball later. Morgan picks up a single down the ground and Bopara adds another on the off-side. Eight from the over.

A leg-bye brings Morgan on strike early in Williamson's eighth over. The left-handed batsman flicks the ball through the leg-side for a single before Bopara cuts powerfully through the covers for three more. A mistake from Southee behind square on the leg-side allows Morgan to collect two with his sweep shot. Williamson offers a freebie to Morgan on the leg-side and he happily works the ball away fine for four.

Bopara rushes through a single following a miscued pull shot and that's the 200 up for the hosts. England pick the gaps in the field to collect the singles on offer as this partnership passes 50. Six from the over.

Morgan reverse sweeps but he can only find a single early in Williamson's over. Bracewell, on as a substitute fielder, does superbly in the deep to prevent Bopara from picking up two runs through cover. Another drive drops short of B. McCullum and Bopara takes the single on offer.

Bopara hasn't looked at his fluent best and his innings comes to an end when he smashes the ball high into the air, with Taylor taking the catch in the deep on the leg-side. Buttler in next but it's Morgan who adds a single from the final ball of Williamson's over.

Morgan and Buttler trade singles early in McClenaghan's new over. A full toss is driven over cover by Morgan but he only picks up three for his trouble. Buttler adds another run and Morgan shows his power when he launches a massive six over mid-wicket.

Mills is quickly back into the attack to replace Williamson. Buttler knows his job at this stage and he matches his partner's shot from the previous over to heave the ball into the crowd for six. The Somerset ace takes advantage of fine leg being up in the ring to scoop the ball fine for four more. That's his trademark shot that he plays so often in domestic cricket. The onslaught continues as Buttler clips the ball in front of square on the leg-side for four more. Fantastic improvisation from Buttler, who plays what we'll call a reverse-scoop over third man for four more. Mills responds with a slower ball and Buttler fails to make contact with a wild swing. However, Buttler ends a remarkable over on top as he crunches another boundary down the ground for four. 22 runs from the over.

Morgan sneaks a single from McClenaghan's second ball, which is a no-ball and that means Buttler has a free hit to play with. McClenaghan gets the delivery completely wrong and is penalised for a no-ball again, this time due to height. The bowler then sends down a wide-ball, much to the delight of the fans and the free-hit is still yet to be taken. When a legal delivery is finally bowled, Buttler gets a thick edge on a ball to pick up four runs. The luck is going England's way now as an inside edge evades Ronchi and races away to the rope for four more. A bouncer results in another wide ball and the England duo even manage to sneak a single. Morgan continues to pile on the misery when he launches a low full toss over mid-wicket for six.

Astonishingly poor over from McClenaghan. England took full advantage in the previous two overs. One more left, Southee will end the innings for New Zealand.

Buttler finds a single to long-on at the start of Southee's over. Morgan is looking close to his brilliant best now as he drives a fuller ball over extra cover for six runs.

Morgan is forced to take a risk with a single to cover but Guptill's brilliant throw denies the left-handed batsman a deserved half-century. Superb fielding brings Bresnan to the middle.

Biggest shot of the day by far as Buttler crunches another six over long-on to test the catching ability of the fans in the second tier of the stand. Southee responds to the pressure by delivering a wide ball, which he clearly doesn't agree with judging by his reaction. Buttler has no sympathy for his rival and he clears the rope again, this time over cover with a brilliant strike. The batsman manages to get his bat on a bouncer from the final ball but he only earns two runs this time and that's the end of the innings.

Buttler walks off the pitch to a standing ovation and rightly so. The batsman ends the innings unbeaten on 47 from just 16 balls. Superb hitting from the Somerset man and he's helped England to a very competitive score at Trent Bridge.

It looked like the hosts would struggle to post a score worthy of winning this game but Morgan and Buttler performed brilliantly to guide England to 287. New Zealand have been batting well and with Guptill in form, they'll be confident when they bat.

We'll take a quick break during the interval but come back in around 20 minutes when New Zealand will attempt to chase 288 to secure a series whitewash.

New Zealand are likely to be more positive than England were in the early overs. However, a couple of early wickets could put the tourists under pressure.

Steven Finn will bowl the first over. Game on!

Great start from the bowler who forces Ronchi into an uncomfortable position. An inside edge prevents lbw from being given and earns the batsman a single. Finn strays twice in the over and is punished for two wide-balls. It's a steady start from the bowler though.

The other returning bowler, Broad, will take the other new ball. There's some swing in the air but Ronchi is happy to attack the wide delivery and he picks up four through third man. Ronchi plays another risky shot and he's given some luck when Morgan fails to react quickly enough to take a catch at point. The batsman takes two to third man following the second boundary of the over. A single brings Guptill on strike, who runs a quick leg-bye to fine leg.

Guptill looks like a man in form as he crunches a drive through extra cover to get off the mark with a four. Even better from the opener just two balls later when he flicks a straight ball through mid-wicket for four more. An easy single is then taken to third man

Broad is bowling at good pace in these early stages but Guptill is still confident enough to pull the seamer and he earns two for the slightly mistimed shot. The New Zealand duo hurry a single to Morgan, who can't hit the stumps running in from point. Ronchi gets away with a poorly executed shot that somehow loops over mid-on before racing away for four.

Tidy over from Finn, who forces Guptill back into his crease early on. The man of the series so far finds a single to mid-wicket before Ronchi steals a single to cover to keep the strike.

Ronchi has looked far more confident so far in this innings and he adds another to his score with an open-faced shot to third man. Guptill defends well and manages to sneak a single. Broad beats the outside edge when Ronchi drives outside off-stump. The bowler is left frustrated later in the over when Ronchi guides the ball past slip for four more.

Ronchi pushes his luck again but this time he has to head back to the dressing room. The batsman is late in playing the pull shot and he can only offer a simple catch to Trott at mid-on. Broad's delivery is looked at again but he just managed to get his foot behind the line. Ronchi goes, Williamson the new batsman.

Superb batting from Guptill, who doesn't seem bothered by the wicket as he pulls the ball powerfully for four. Finn loses his line again and Guptill can easily flick the ball off his pads for another boundary. Guptill defends a couple but he ends the over with the best shot of his innings so far as he drives straight past the bowler for four more.

At this stage England were only 12-1 so that tells you something about how bad the hosts started.

Williamson is off the mark with a thick edge for a single early in Broad's over. Guptill then hurries two before pulling a bouncer over the rope at fine-leg for six runs. Broad is too wide two balls later and Guptill is playing to well to not drive the ball through the covers for four. The opener has raced to 38 from 30 balls and I'm not sure I'd like to bet against him reaching three figures again.

Bresnan replaces Finn, who does very well at mid-on early in the over to force Williamson to settle for a single. The bowler brings one back in towards Guptill but it's too high to be lbw and the ball races away for four leg-byes. Five in the over, England must remove Guptill.

Tredwell is given his first over as he comes on to replace Broad. Williamson rocks back to nudge Tredwell through the off-side for a single.

Great delivery from Tredwell as he gets one to sneak through the gate and dislodge the bails. Guptill heads back to the dressing room following a super series on a personal level. Good captaincy from Cook to introduce spin at this stage. Taylor in next.

Taylor defends his first ball easily. Great start from Tredwell, who always seems to perform well for his country.

Williamson is eager to work Bresnan behind square on the off-side but he's lucky he doesn't drag on with a mistimed cut. A better execution of the same shot earns Williamson two to deep point. The batsman then survives a hopeful lbw appeal before flicking the ball to square-leg for one more run.

Williamson's single gives Taylor the strike early in Tredwell's over and the New Zealand number four gets off the mark with one to point. Two more singles are added and it's four from the over.

Bresnan delivers a sharp bouncer to force Taylor to take evasive action. Williamson is forced into diving to make his ground when Taylor calls for a quick single to point. A mistake from Finn on the leg-side allows the Black Caps duo to take two, rather than one, later in the over. Williamson finds two more to deep mid-wicket, five from the over.

Taylor uses the paddle-sweep to collect a single midway through Tredwell's over and Williamson adds another with a drive to Trott, who fumbles the ball at mid-off. New Zealand continue to take chances as Taylor sneaks another when Bresnan misses his throw at the stumps.

Bresnan continues his spell and Taylor persists with his hunt for singles as he finds a run to square-leg. The bowler pushes too hard with an attempted bouncer and the umpire signals a wide-ball. Williamson flicks the ball to deep mid-wicket for a run to make it three from the over. New Zealand need 200 more runs to win.

Time for one of the part-time bowlers to have a go as Cook gives the ball to Root. The spinner almost finds a wicket immediately but Buttler fails to whip the bails off when Williamson dances down the pitch. Root's impressive early work is ruined when he loses his length to allow Williamson to pull the ball away for four.

Williamson attempts another pull shot but he doesn't make contact this time and gives the umpire the easiest of lbw decisions. Root has his first ODI wicket and it's an important moment in the match.

Munro is the new batsman and he's given the strike when Taylor cuts the ball away for a single at the beginning of Bresnan's over.

Munro goes for a golden duck as he sends an edge through to Buttler, who takes an easy catch. England surely in control now, New Zealand need a partnership.

Brendon McCullum is the new batsman and he'll be hoping to contribute for his side from here. The skipper is off the mark with a run to deep mid-wicket. Taylor fends off a shorter ball and is able to sneak a single.

Great timing from Taylor to cut Root behind square on the off-side for four runs at the beginning of a new over. A clip off the pad brings another run for the batsman but it's just five from the over.

Finn is back for a new spell and he looks eager to bring the ball back in towards the batsman. Taylor flicks one off his hip for a single and McCullum adds another through cover. Finn nudges the bails off with his knee and that means a no-ball is given these days. Three from the over.

Tredwell is back for a new spell as Cook looks to break this key partnership during its early stages. McCullum lunges forward to play the reverse-sweep and earns four with the brilliant piece of improvisation.

Big wicket for England. McCullum rocks back to play a cut shot but he can only edge the ball and, after missing a stumping chance earlier, Buttler takes a very good catch. Cook's decision to bring back the spinner is vindicated.

Franklin is the new batsman and he defends his first ball. Another very impressive over from Tredwell. Taylor will be very important from here.

Finn strikes Taylor on the pads but it's far too high for the following lbw appeal to be considered. The same batsman nudges the ball into the leg-side for a single. Cook has two slips for Franklin, who calmly gets off the mark with a single just wide of mid-off.

Franklin and Taylor trade singles early in Tredwell's new over. The newer batsman pushes the ball to long-off for another run before Taylor is forced back to keep out a quicker delivery. Just three from Tredwell's over.

Broad is back for a new spell and he's immediately on target to Franklin. The left-handed batsman is forced to defend and is lucky to get two runs when a thick edge races away to fine leg.

Taylor uses his feet well to nudge the ball past the fielder at mid-wicket for a single. Franklin defends well before pushing the ball away for another run. Tredwell continues to bowl with great control, two from the over.

Franklin slices the ball into the air but it travels quickly past Morgan at point to earn him a run. Broad finds a good length to Taylor but a thick edge allows the batsman to get off strike.

Cook puts himself at gully following Franklin's earlier loose shot and the skipper is in place to take a brilliant catch when the batsman repeats the error. Broad has his second wicket and the hosts will be confident of bowling out the Kiwis from here.

McCullum sweeps at the start of Tredwell's over to pick up a single and Taylor adds another with a prod into the off-side. A finer sweep from McCullum brings two more runs before a drive through extra cover earns the new arrival four more.

Taylor steers the ball past point for a single early in Broad's new over. A thick edge from McCullum rotates the strike again. Taylor calls for two when he flicks the ball to fine-leg and he's forced to dive to ensure he remains out in the middle.

McCullum and Taylor trade singles early on as Root comes back for a new spell. Bell can't prevent McCullum from hurrying another single on the leg-side. Root does superbly to stop Taylor pushing the ball straight down the ground for a single but he fails to keep the batsman form nudging one to mid-on. One more and it's five from the over.

Bopara is the new bowler for England and he immediately concedes a single to McCullum. Taylor clips the ball past short mid-wicket for another run before McCullum is forced to dig out a fuller delivery from the bowler. McCullum does find another run and he'll keep the strike.

McCullum chips the ball into the leg-side for a run at the start of Root's over. Taylor nudges one down the ground to give the strike back to McCullum, who drives the ball through the covers superbly for four. A thin edge from the same batsman then races to the rope to end an expensive over from Root.

Bopara is close to making a breakthrough when Taylor lobs the ball into the air on the off-side but it sails past cover and he collects a single. McCullum pushes another run to long-on and Taylor find a single to deep cover. Four scored in Bopara's over.

Superb from Taylor as he slog-sweeps the ball for a massive six off Root. The ball is luck to stay in the ground to be honest. Seven from the over.

Taylor finds a single early in a new over, which is bowled by the returning Bresnan. A bouncer results in a wide-ball. McCullum steers one run to deep cover and Taylor adds another from the final ball.

McCullum clips Bopara away to deep square-leg before Taylor adds one to long-on to bring up the half-century partnership from 53 balls. Bopara gets one to nip away and encourages McCullum to swing wildly at the ball. Three from the over, time for a drinks break.

New Zealand now need 115 runs from 96 balls if they are to secure a series whitewash.

McCullum was well aware he needed to accelerate but he can only loft the ball into the air and Broad takes a superb catch over his shoulder as he runs back towards the rope at mid-on. Could that be the end of New Zealand's bid for victory?

Taylor's thick edge brings a single and Southee, who has just arrived at the crease, gets off the mark with a run to point. Four runs and a wicket from the over.

Finn comes back into the attack and Cook immediately puts two fielders on the hook for Southee. However, the new batsman instead targets the off-side as he rocks back to punch the ball through the covers for four. Finn finds some extra bounce but Southee manages to glove the ball away for a single. Taylor guides the ball to third man to move to 45. Finn strays down leg-side to deliver a wide, seven from the over.

Taylor pushes Bresnan into the leg-side for a single and Southee pulls the ball through the leg-side for another. Bresnan surprises the same batsman with a good bouncer later in the over. Three more added to the total for the Kiwis in the middle of this batting powerplay.

Finn concedes a single to Taylor early in a new over. Southee steps back to give himself some room to cut the ball over point for four runs. Finn pulls his length back but that doesn't worry Southee, who heaves the ball into the leg-side for four more.

It looked like being a good over for the tourists but Finn's slower ball gets Southee, who chips the ball into Cook's hands at mid-wicket. Close to being all over now at Trent Bridge.

Broad is back for a new spell and he immediately gets one to straighten to beat Taylor's outside edge. Just one single from Broad's over, scored by Taylor.

FIFTY for Taylor thanks to a single into the leg-side. He's recorded a half-century in all three matches in this series. Finn delivers a good bouncer to hit the glove of Mills but the tail-end batsman is able to sneak a single. Taylor quickly gives the strike back to his partner, who shows some confidence to punch the ball through the off-side for four before taking a single to keep the strike.

Mills refuses to shy away from the short bowling as he pulls Broad in the air through mid-wicket for four. A mistake from Bell at cover allows Mills to hurry a single and Taylor adds another behind point. Mills finds a run to fine-leg but his cal for a second is quickly rejected by Taylor. Two more singles means it's nine from the over.

Mills gives the strike to Taylor at the start of Bopara's new over. Taylor runs brilliantly to earn two with a late cut behind point on the off-side. The same batsman enjoys a bit of luck when he lofts the ball just short of Trott at deep cover at the end of the over. Seven scored in the over.

Tredwell returns for a new spell and Taylor immediately heaves the ball to mid-wicket for two runs. Taylor smashes another ball into the air a couple of deliveries later. Finn takes the catch but throws the ball away when he's about to land on the ropes. The replay shows he didn't do it in time and Taylor has six. Taylor celebrates by launching a much more orthodox six into the stands at mid-wicket.

That's how you do it Mr Finn. Taylor targets mid-wicket again and when Finn takes the catch close to the rope he throws the ball to Bresnan before stepping on the other side of the field of play. Bresnan does the rest and Taylor's innings comes to an end.

McClenaghan is the new batsman but it's Mills who ends the over with a push to mid-off.

Mills gets off strike early in Bopara's over with a single to deep mid-wicket. Bopara hits McClenaghan with a beamer and he's punished by the umpire when a no-ball is given. Two scored in the over.

Tredwell allows Mills to get off strike at the start of a new over but he can't put the pressure on McClenaghan, who finds a single with shot off the back of the bat. Mills dances down the pitch and crunches the ball straight down the ground for a big six. The same batsman sweeps hard to mid-wicket but Trott does well to prevent a boundary. 11 runs scored in the spinner's over.

New Zealand need 39 runs from 30 balls but surely they will run out of batsmen?

Mills is fooled by a slower ball but makes good contact with the next delivery to earn a single to long-on. Another variation forces McClenaghan to rock back and defend. A flick to square-leg brings Mills on strike. Plenty of slower balls in an over which goes for just two runs. Good bowling from Bopara.

Finn replaces Tredwell to complete his allocation of overs. McClenaghan lofts the ball into the air but Broad fails to take a fantastic catch at wide mid-off.

ENGLAND WIN BY 34 RUNS: McClenaghan smashes the ball into the air just in front of point but Root is there to take a simple catch. England win their final match before the Champions Trophy and avoid a series whitewash.

New Zealand will be disappointed that they couldn't record the whitewash but they win the series 2-1. England needed an improved performance following the criticism in recent days. It wasn't perfect but the hosts have won at Trent Bridge.

Buttler's brilliance will steal the headlines tomorrow and rightly so but it's Guptill who will walk away with the man of the series award. Both teams must now quickly prepare for the Champions Trophy.
