Live Commentary: Olympic diving - day seven as it happened

Sports Mole brings you live text updates from the preliminary round of the women's 3m springboard.

Good afternoon and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of day seven of the Olympic diving.

London's stunning Aquatics Centre plays host to the preliminary round of the women's 3m springboard today, where the hopes of Team GB rest on the shoulders of Hannah Starling and Rebecca Gallantree.

The Chinese have been nothing short of dominant in this year's event, and their hopefuls Zi He and Wu Minxia are among the firm favourites to make it through to the semi-finals.

Please note that the events get underway at 2.30pm.

4.48pmThat's all from me today. Join us from 2pm tomorrow for all the action from the women's 3m springboard semi-final.

4.43pmChina take first and second place. Wu is top of the pile with 387.95, followed by He on 363.85. Cagnotto of Italy comes in third, and Abel of Canada in fourth.

4.42pmTeam GB's Rebecca Gallantree and Hannah Starling progress to the semi-finals in 16th and 17th place respectively.

4.40pmShe is now! Nora Barta of Hungary can only manage 53.20 with her final effort, and the Briton progresses to the last 18!

4.39pmBut Starling isn't safe yet.

4.38pmAustralia's Jaele Patrick could still squeeze through. She earns 50.50 and moves in 17th. Gallantree is through!

4.37pmFour more to dive. This is going to be very close!

4.34pmGallatree pulls off the same move very well, and earns a 63.00. That moves her to 15th! Will that be enough? Starling is one place below her!

4.33pmWu finishes on one of the dives of the afternoon, earning a cool 84.00 for her back 2 1/2 somersault. That's first place for her.

4.32pmStarling is in 15th as it stands. Things are tense now! Gallantree is in 22nd, but she has one dive remaining.

4.29pmHe's final dive isn't her finest. It's a forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 twist, and it wasn't worth the 63.00 the judges awarded. She moves into top for the time being.

4.28pmKrug books her place in the semi with a score of 72.00 on her final dive.

4.26pmCagnotto with a splashless entry into the water on her final dive. She earns 72.00, and will likely progress in the top three.

4.24pmLoukas of the US bags 67.50 for her final dive. She's up to third, and will certainly be through to the semis.

4.24pmAble of Canada and Lindberg of Sweden are likely to go through with scores of 72.00 and 60.00, respectively.

4.21pmPozdniakova of Russsia, who is on the cusp of the qualifying positions, can only manage 58.50 on her final dive. Is that curtains for her?

4.19pmDallape finishes strongly with the same move as Starling. It earns her a 63.00, and that should see her through too.

4.18pmStarling saves the best for last! It's a forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 1/2 twist, pulled off with precision. The judges say 63.00, and that puts her in a good position to qualify!

4.15pmThe final round is under way now. Stratton kicks it off with a inward 2 1/2 somersault. It's as steady a dive as we've seen from her today, earning 67.50. She's definitely in the semi-final.

4.15pmThe Chinese still lead the way going into the final round. Wu is top with 303.95 points, followed by He on 300.85. Then comes Cagnotto of Italy. Britain's Gallantree and Starling are clinging on in there in 16th and 17th, respectively.

4.09pmGalantree's inward 2 1/2 somersault is shaky. The judges award 49.50, and she'll be sweating now!

4.07pmWu of China pulls off another effortly brilliant reverse 2 1/2 somersault for a score of 81.00. She takes the top spot from her compatriot.

4.06pmThe nerves are clearly getting to Castillo. She looked almost afraid to dive there, pulling off a mediocre somersault for a mediocre haul of 45.00.

4.04pmHe with a reverse 2 1/2 somersault. It's another well executed dive for a score of 76.50. That moves her to the top of the pecking order on 300.85 points.

4.02pmKrug of the US is sloppy during her fourth dive. She takes 51.00 points and goes eighth for the time being, but she won't remain near the top for long.

4.00pmCagnotto's inward 2 1/2 somersault is absolutely sublime! The judges award 75.00, which moves her into the top spot on 277.80 points.

3.57pmLoukas with a forward 3 1/2 somersault to move into the third place with a total haul of 262.95.

3.55pmJennifer Abel of Canada, who is pushing for a top three place, performs an inward 2 1/2 for 63.00, moving her into second behind Stratton for the time being.

3.54pmDallape's take off on her third dive is sloppy, but she recovers to earn a 58.50. That will help consolidate her position at the right end of the table.

3.52pmStarling shows good execution on her reverse 2 1/2 somersault. She earns 67.50, which will help her back into that top 18!

3.49pmStratton starts round four with a reverse 2 1/2 somersault. She's as consistent as ever, racking up 67.50. She is all but through to the semi-finals.

3.49pmNo surprise to see the Chinese in the top two positions at the end of round three. He is top on 224.35, with Wu just behind her on 222.95. Team GB's Gallantree is in 12 on 186.75 and her compatriot Starling is 19 on 168.45.

3.41pmGallantree earns 69.75 for her forward 3 1/2 somersault in the third round. That keeps her inside the qualification spots.

3.40pmWu takes to the springboard and performs a forward 3 1/2 somersault with spike. It wasn't her best. Her toes were slightly over the edge of the board for a start, but the judges award 66.65. Higher than it should have been. She moves into second.

3.39pmSuarez of Venezuela loses her balance and there's going to be a technical restart. The judges deduct two points when she finals performs the dive. Leaves her with 43.40.

3.37pmZi with her third round dive. It's a back 2 1/2 somersault, pulled off with effortless perfection for a 79.50! She takes the top spot.

3.35pmAbel of Canada has moved in to the lead after her third dive. She was consistent in her openers, and now has 209.15 points in total.

3.32pmCagnotto with a forward 3/12. Too much roll as she enters the water, so it's only worth 55.80. She is still well on course to go through though.

3.31pmLoukas of the US is strong and steady on her inward 2 1/2 somersault, pulling in 63.00 points to replace Lindberg in third.

3.29pmLindberg of Sweden with a reverse 2 1/2 somersault with pike. It is steady and earns 63.00 moving her into third. She's looking good for the semi-finals.

3.26pmDallape of Italy launches into a back 2 1/2 somersault. It isn't her best dive of the afternoon. The judges say 51.00. She moves into second behind Stratton.

3.25pmShe moves into third for the time being, but expect her to slide down the table as rapidly as Liverpool FC did in the second half of the last Premier League campaign.

3.23pmStarling steps up for her third dive. It's a reverse 2 1/2 somersault. Her take off and aerial work are good, but she's marked down heavily for tipping as she entered the water. A score of 48.00.

3.21pmStratton's first dive of round three is a forward 3 1/2 somersault. It's worth 68.20. Another impressive points haul to keep her in the hunt.

3.21pmRemember, the top 18 go through, so both of our girls are safe as it stands.

3.20pmMinxia Wu of China leads after round two with 156.30 points, Cagnotto of Italy is in second on 147.00. Then comes China's He in third on 144.85. Team GB's Starling and Gallantree are in 14th and 15th, respectively.

3.15pmGalantree is penalised on her reverse 2 1/2 somersault for throwing up too much of a splash. She is awarded 54.00 and that puts her once place below Starling in 13th on 117.00 points.

3.11pmWu of China with a reverse 1 1/2 somersault 2 1/2 twist, and she's back on top with an overall 156.30. 78.30 for that one!

3.09pmZi with a 72.85 for her seemingly effortless 3 1/2 somersault. That doesn't put her in the lead, though. She sits in second on 144.85.

3.08pmMunoz of Mexico, looking to make up for a poor first dive, earns 58.50 for her second. Better from her.

3.06pmCagnotto of Italy storms to the top with a masterful forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 twist! She has 147.00 overall, an impressive haul.

3.02pmLoukas of the US has taken the lead, earning 67.50 for a reverse 2 1/2 somersault. Stratton of Australia is in second, but the Chinese are yet to dive in round two.

3.01pmDallape of Italy consolidates her high ranking with a 69.75 for a forward 3 /12. Expect her to be near the top of the table come the end.

3.00pmFrance's Farissier has her work cut out after earning 42.00 for what was more of a mistimed lunge than a dive

2.58pmStarling's first dive of round two is a forward 3 1/2 in the pike position. Earns her a solid 60.45, which will keep her in contention.

2.56pmAustralia's Stratton starts off the second round with a nice back 2 1/2 somersault for 67.50.

2.55pmThe top 18 go through, so both Britons stand to progress if it stays the same.

2.54pmAt the end of the first round Wu of China leads on 78 points, followed by Italy's Gagnotto on 75.00. Team GB's Galantree is in joint 13th on 63.00, and Starling is joint-15th on 60.00.

2.53pmTwo more to dive in the first round.

2.51pmGalantree lies in joint-11th at present, while Starling shares 13th with three other divers.

2.50pmJenifer Benitez Benitez of Spain is shaky on her first dive, earning 48.60.

2.49pmGallantree of Team GB twists and turns through her forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 twist, hitting the water with a tad too much force. Earns her a 63.00.

2.47pmWu Minxia of China steps up and performs an inward 2 1/2 somersault. It's as masterful as we've come to expect, putting her in the lead on 78.00.

2.44pmMexico's Arantxa Chavez Munoz is penalised for having all ten toes over the board on her first dive. She scores a mere 22.50 and props up the rest.

2.42pmKrug of the USA gets off to an ideal start with a 73.50 with her inward 2 1/2 somersault. That ranks her in second. GB's Staring lies in joint-ninth.

2.40pmTania Cagnotto with an inch-perfect back 2 1/2 somrsult. It's the dive of the round so far! The judges say 75.00, and she's in the lead.

2.39pmLaura Sanchez Soto of Mexico in less than graceful entering the water. The judges penalise her with a score of 57.00.

2.37pm67.50 for Anna Lindberg of Sweden pushes Starling down to sixth place in the pecking order.

2.35pmJennifer Abel of Canada has just performed a beautiful backward 2 1/2 somersault for a score of 72.00. That puts her joint-first with Stratton.

2.33pmSharleen Stratton of Australia currently leads with her score of 72.00. Starling is in third with five athletes having performed their first dive.

2.32pmHannah Starling of Great Britain is off to a solid start, earning 60.00 from the judges for an inward 2 1/2!
