Team GB's Chris Mears has expressed his delight at representing his country in an Olympic final.
The 19-year-old came in ninth in the last 12 of the men's 3m springboard with an admirable score of 439.75 in what he describes as his "best" performance.
"That was the best performance of my life, in front of a home crowd, just when it mattered," The AP quotes him as saying. "Now I can say I'm an Olympic finalist. I can't believe it."
Mears, who almost died from a ruptured spleen three years ago, went on to call his experience at the Aquatics Centre this evening "amazing".
He added: "I've had a hard time and to be stood up there representing my country and to do a performance like that is absolutely amazing."
Russia's Ilya Zakharov took the gold medal in the event with a final score of 555.90, ending China's clean sweep of the competition.
