League Two roundup: Plymouth Argyle ease past York City

Plymouth Argyle claim a 2-1 win over York City to maintain their five-point lead over Oxford United at the top of League Two.

Plymouth Argyle have retained their five-point lead at the top of the League Two table after beating York City 2-1 at Bootham Crescent this afternoon.

Jake Jervis and Graham Carey both struck in the first half, with Ben Godfrey pulling a goal back for the hosts nine minutes into stoppage time, to seal a third straight win for the Pilgrims, and leave their opponents without a victory in their last 11 league outings.

Second-place Oxford United kept up the pressure on the league leaders by earning a 1-0 win over rivals Cambridge United thanks to Ryan Taylor's goal.

An early strike from Marc Richards saw Northampton Town move into the final automatic promotion spot, courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Mansfield Town.

The Cobblers were able to leapfrog Accrington Stanley in the table, after John Coleman's side could only manage a 2-2 draw in a thrilling match with Newport County.

Bristol Rovers took advantage of other results going their way to move to within a spot of the playoff places, as Matty Taylor struck a double in a 2-0 win against Carlisle United.

Tom Pett grabbed a late equaliser for Stevenage as Teddy Sheringham's side fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at Yeovil Town.

A Shaun Jeffers goal had looked like giving the home side the three points, before Pett found the net two minutes from time to stop Boro from falling to a third straight league defeat.

There was also late drama in Exeter City and Crawley Town's clash at St James Park, as Luke Rooney scored an equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time to salvage his team a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Luton Town continued their resurgence in form as goals in each half from Danny Green and Cameron McGeehan helped to seal a 2-0 win over Barnet.
