Africa Cup of Nations Preview: Guinea

Having reached the quarter-finals in three of the last four tournaments, Guinea will be hoping to take the extra step at this year's Africa Cup of Nations. Sports Mole considers their chances.

Of all the teams in the Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea have one of the better records in recent times.

Having reached the quarter-finals in 2004, 2006 and 2008, the National Elephants will hope to take that extra step this time around.

Guinea's inclusion this year was also at the expense of one of the notable absentees, Nigeria, from whom they took four points in qualification.

Group: D

Players to watch out for:

Bobo Balde
The former Celtic and Wolves defender is the oldest player in the Guinea squad at 36-years-old. However, he should prove to be a calming, organised presence in manager Michel Dussuyer's defensive unit.

Pascal Feindouno
The 30-year-old winger is currently without a team, but his 21 goals in 55 appearances for his country could be invaluable for Guinea at the tournament.

Previous best: Runners-up 1976

Odds to win outright: 40/1
