Nicolas Maduro: 'Diego Maradona should succeed Sepp Blatter as FIFA president'

Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro tips Diego Maradona to become the next president of FIFA.

Venezuela president Nicolas Maduro has suggested that Argentina legend Diego Maradona should be the next president of FIFA.

Sepp Blatter announced on Monday that he will resign as president following the corruption scandal that has hit world football's governing body.

Maduro believes that Maradona's passion for football would make him a good candidate to succeed the Swiss.

"The president of the international football federation should be Diego Armando Maradona or someone like him," BBC Sport quotes Maduro as saying.

"Diego Armando Maradona has been denouncing FIFA for decades, they've threatened him and they've laughed at him."

Maradona captained Argentina to the 1986 World Cup and managed them in the 2010 tournament.
