Arsene Wenger slams "very poor defending"

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger concedes that "very poor defending" led to his troops surrendering a three-goal lead against Anderlecht.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that "very poor defending" cost Arsenal after throwing away a three-goal lead in tonight's 3-3 Champions League draw with Anderlecht.

The Gunners had looked on course for the last 16 after goals from Mikel Arteta, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave them a seemingly unassailable lead by 58 minutes.

However, Anthony Vanden Borre struck twice before Aleksandar Mitrovic netted a stoppage-time equaliser as Arsenal left the Emirates Stadium pitch to a chorus of boos from the home fans.

"We had some bad luck, the first goal was offside but we had a lack of concentration and thought the game was won," he told BBC Sport.

"Overall we were poor defensively from the first to the last minute. At 3-2 you have to secure yourself and we were not cautious enough. It was very poor defending.

"Am I angry or disappointed? Both."

Wenger's side are still expected to reach the knockout stages as Arsenal sit second in Group D, five points clear of the third-placed Belgians with only two games remaining.
