Arsene Wenger: "You smell that we can score goals"

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels that his side are confident every time they press forward because of the quality they have in the final third of the pitch.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that his side are brimming with confidence because of the quality of the club's strikers.

The Gunners hammered Liverpool 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium to take a major step towards achieving Champions League football for next season as Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud all found the net.

Wenger has praised the effect that Sanchez and Giroud have had on the team due to their prowess in front of goal.

He told the club's official website: "You smell that we can score goals. If you look at the number of goals we've scored now – 62 from 31 league games – that's quite good with seven matches to go.

"We last had two players scoring 25 a season with [Robert] Pires and [Thierry] Henry, or maybe [Dennis] Bergkamp and Henry. That's a long time ago. But they're not bad names! Giroud has surprised a lot of people. It shows that we missed him when he was out for four months.

"Laurent Koscielny was out for four months too. Ozil the same. And basically they were all out together. You can see that that makes a difference. We have a good mentality and cohesion in the team. There is something happening. That shows you they are ready to fight for each other. You can see that. You can't cheat on that. People smell that."

Arsenal are second in the Premier League, with seven games remaining this season.
