Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Arsenal could line up for Thursday's Europa League last-16 first leg against Sporting Lisbon.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could be working without three central attacking options for Thursday's Europa League last-16 first leg against Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

Gabriel Jesus is not quite ready to make his comeback from knee surgery, while Mohamed Elneny is out for the same reason and will likely remain sidelined until the end of the campaign.

Eddie Nketiah is also dealing with an ankle problem, and Arteta's striker crisis was exacerbated when Leandro Trossard pulled up with a groin problem in the first half of Saturday's win over Bournemouth.

The Belgian is not believed to have sustained a serious problem and could return before the international break, but Gabriel Martinelli should start in the number nine role for the time being.

As a result, Emile Smith Rowe should be given the nod on the left as he makes his first start in any competition this season, although Reiss Nelson is another option after his last-gasp heroics against Bournemouth.

However, with the calibre of opposition improving, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard may still be given the nod from the first whistle, as Fabio Vieira attempts to make an impact from the bench.

With no risks likely to be taken on Thomas Partey's fitness, Jorginho could earn a deserved recall to the first XI alongside Granit Xhaka, who only came on as a substitute in the win over Bournemouth.

Fresh from scoring his first goal for the club, Ben White should displace Takehiro Tomiyasu at right-back, while Europa League regular Kieran Tierney has picked up an illness, so Oleksandr Zinchenko may not be afforded any rest on the left.

Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are unlikely to be dropped for this tie either, but Matt Turner did not do much wrong in the group stage and should feel hopeful of continuing his continental run over Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal possible starting lineup: Turner; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Xhaka, Jorginho; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Martinelli
