Arsenal's Arsene Wenger reveals six-man injury list ahead of Newcastle clash

Arsene Wenger reveals that Arsenal have six players suffering with injuries and just one recognised centre-back available for Saturday's match against Newcastle United.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is facing an injury crisis, with just one recognised centre-back fit for Saturday's visit of Newcastle United.

Per Mertesacker is the only senior defender available, as Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal are expected to sit out of this weekend's match at the Emirates with calf and foot injuries respectively.

The Gunners have four other players doubtful for the encounter, including Aaron Ramsey, who is dealing with a hamstring issue following midweek's 3-1 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League, in which the Welshman scored.

Wenger told the club's official website: "Our main problems are still defensively because Laurent Koscielny looks like he will not be quite ready, Nacho Monreal is not back and Calum Chambers is suspended.

"Mikel Arteta (calf) is not ready and Theo Walcott (groin) is out. Aaron Ramsey will be checked today and tomorrow, so we'll see."

Wenger and his team have faced criticism in recent weeks, particularly after last weekend's 3-2 defeat to Stoke City.
