Ajax 'blocking Arsenal's Marc Overmars move'

Ajax block Arsenal's attempts to make Marc Overmars their new director of football, according to a report.

Ajax are reportedly blocking Arsenal's attempts to make Marc Overmars their new director of football.

Overmars represented Arsenal as a player between 1997 and 2000, helping the club win a Premier League and FA Cup double in the 1997-98 campaign before leaving for Barcelona in July 2000.

The 45-year-old has been Ajax's director of football since June 2012 and he has a contract with the Dutch giants until the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are desperate to bring Overmars back to London, but Ajax have no intention of releasing the Dutchman from his contract and 'will not accept any compensation offer'.

The Gunners have collected 50 points from their 26 Premier League matches this season, leaving them in fifth position in the table ahead of Sunday's clash with Southampton.
