Chris Coleman: 'Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey can lead us to European Championship'

Having firmly established themselves as club level, Chris Coleman wants Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale to shine for Wales in their nation's Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has called on Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey to replicate their form at club level for their nation in a bid to secure qualification to the European Championships in 2016.

The duo have emerged as two of their nation's outstanding prospects in recent years, with Ramsey enjoying a fine season with Arsenal thus far, while Bale usurped Cristiano Ronaldo as the game's most expensive player following his £85m move to Real Madrid in September.

Coleman, who signed a two-year extension as coach on Thursday, has thrown down the gauntlet to two of his stand-out players and is hopeful that the pair can inspire Wales to qualify for their first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup.

Speaking to reporters ahead of today's friendly with Finland, Coleman said: "We need Gareth and Aaron at their best for the majority of the games if we are going to mount a challenge. Our players aren't daft and they know how good these players are.

"When I played we had stand-out players like Ian Rush, Mark Hughes, Dean Saunders, Ryan Giggs and Neville Southall and we knew we had a chance. It's the same now. We have two world-class performers now and I want to work with that.

"Equally, there is a responsibility on Baley and Rambo to make sure that when they are with us, they continue their club form - which they do."

Tonight's encounter is scheduled to kick off at 6pm.
