Olivier Giroud: 'My absence from Arsenal team is down to lack of training'

Olivier Giroud says that he has not featured regularly for Arsenal because of "lack of training", but is now fit to start.

Olivier Giroud has explained that his limited time on the pitch for Arsenal this season is down to "lack of training" following Euro 2016.

The 29-year-old, whose France lost to Portugal in the European Championship final, has made just one appearance as a late substitute three games into the season.

Giroud has insisted that he is now fit and ready to play after scoring in Les Bleus' 3-1 victory over Italy last week.

"It if had been a priority, the manager would have asked me to come back sooner - that wasn't the case," the London Evening Standard quotes Giroud as saying.

"Don't worry, everything is fine. I'm used to people doubting me. Since the start of my career, it has been the same. Maybe I need that so I don't get too comfortable, but between last season and the Euros, I've got no reason to doubt myself."

Giroud will be vying for a starting spot in this weekend's league match against Southampton at the Emirates.
