Roy Hodgson: 'No problems with Arsene Wenger over Jack Wilshere'

Roy Hodgson insists that he has no problems with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger following Jack Wilshere's withdrawal from the England squad.

England manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that he has no problems with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over the unavailability of midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The 21-year-old was withdrawn from the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro due to an ankle injury.

Despite the blow, Wenger claimed that the rest would benefit Wilshere, who was previously sidelined for over a year with injury woes.

Last month, the Frenchman was unhappy with Hodgson's decision to play the midfielder for the full 90 minutes of England's victory over Brazil in a friendly at Wembley.

"He's injured and that's unfortunate," Sky Sports News quotes Hodgson as saying. "But that is part and parcel of life as a football coach. I have no evidence [of Arsenal picking an international break for a rest].

"We are disappointed he isn't with us because, on merit, he'd be picked and would play. But injuries occur. Club managers have got another job to do.

"That conflict is always going to be there, between club and national team, because people will want them to be there playing for them. But I don't have any criticisms of them."

Wilshere was given a three-week layoff when he suffered the problem.
