Roy Hodgson: 'Danny Welbeck could prove to be a steal'

England manager Roy Hodgson calls on Danny Welbeck to keep his good form going and prove to people that his transfer to Arsenal was 'a great piece of business'.

England manager Roy Hodgson has lavished praise on Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck, believing that people may soon call his £16m transfer from Manchester United 'great business'.

The 23-year-old scored his first career hat-trick in midweek against Galatasaray, with the Three Lions boss in attendance at the Emirates.

Hodgson is quoted as saying by The Express: "Danny's doing well. I'm very pleased he's doing well and it's good for us he's following up his England goals with Arsenal goals.

"He is a good player. It seems to me in the days of very high transfer fees that £16m does seem a fairly reasonable price to pay but it is up to Daniel to show that he is worth that money.

"If he continues to do so well that people are writing 'this was a steal' or 'this was a great piece of business' even better still."

Welbeck was named in the latest England squad for games against Estonia and San Marino.
