Ian Wright has slammed former Arsenal boss Unai Emery for sounding "delusional" in recent comments about his tenure with the club.

The 48-year-old Spaniard was sacked at the end of November 2019 after overseeing a seven-game winless run, with his successor Mikel Arteta subsequently experiencing an improvement in performances and an unbeaten start to 2020.

In an interview earlier in the week, former Sevilla boss Emery criticised the attitude of several Arsenal players during his time there and emphasised his achievements while in charge.

Speaking on the Kelly & Wrighty show, Wright panned the Spaniard's comments, saying: "I was there yesterday, they were doing their press day, and you can feel it – you know what it's like, you know when there's a good atmosphere in and around the club. You can feel it.

"Under the old manager it was like a regime, it wasn't very enjoyable, they didn't know where they were going, there wasn't a lot of direction in what they were doing. And when you hear the quotes from Unai Emery... delusional comments if you ask me.

"He was a gentleman when he was at the club, but to hear him say those things is quite sad to see. For me, he's probably looking for a new job, trying to put himself back out there."

Arsenal resume their Europa League campaign on Thursday when they travel to Greece to take on Olympiacos.
