Ljungberg: 'Arsenal need very good players'

Freddie Ljungberg says that Arsenal have the foundations of a title-challenging side, but need to recruit some top-class players.

Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg believes that his old club need some "very good players" if they are to challenge for honours next season.

The Gunners haven't won a trophy since the Swede was at the club in 2005, when they lifted the FA Cup at the Millennium Stadium after beating Manchester United on penalties.

Ljungberg, who recently criticised the team's celebrations when securing fourth place in the Premier League this season, feels that the club have the basics right but need to recruit some top-class players in order to succeed.

"I think they have the foundations, but maybe they need to get some very good players to spice it up a little bit," Ljungberg told The Telegraph.

"It's hard for any team if you let your best players go every year. It's not even possible to compete to win then and Arsene Wenger has done really well with the squad he has."

Ljungberg spent nine years at Arsenal from 1998 to 2007 and won two Premier League titles along with three FA Cups.
