Aaron Ramsey: 'Arsenal can beat big boys now'

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey says that the Gunners' 1-0 Community Shield win over Chelsea is a sign that they can challenge the best teams.

Aaron Ramsey has claimed that Arsenal's Community Shield win over Chelsea is proof that the Gunners have curbed their big-game frailties.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the only goal of the game as Arsene Wenger's side beat the Premier League champions in the traditional prelude ahead of the top-flight season.

The North Londoners have struggled to hold their own against other top-four teams in recent seasons, but Ramsey says that this afternoon's victory is a sign that the FA Cup winners are headed in the right direction.

"We definitely had to sit in at times today, but I think we've learned over the years how to sort of play against the bigger teams now," the Welshman told reporters. "Sometimes you have to do that and invite them on and get them on the counter-attack, which we've done.

"They [Chelsea] have done ever so well against us in the past, so we used different techniques to get the result.

"You can definitely sense that something has sort of clicked into place and everybody knows what they're doing. [We are] going in the right direction and we feel confident that we can go and win games."

The victory also saw Wenger record his first ever win over Blues counterpart Jose Mourinho at the 14th time of asking.

Arsenal, who finished third last season, kick off their 2015-16 league campaign by hosting West Ham United next Sunday.
