Sol Campbell defends Arsene Wenger record

Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell insists that Arsene Wenger has earned the right to choose when his time at the club should come to an end.

Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has insisted that Arsene Wenger is the best man to judge when his time at the club should come to an end.

Wenger's future has come under scrutiny on a number of occasions in recent seasons, with some fans launching a protest against his reign towards the end of the 2015-16 campaign as the Gunners' title drought extended to 12 years.

However, Campbell does not believe that the Frenchman is getting enough credit for the work he has done at the club and claims that he has earned the right to stay.

"Everyone's got to realise how much he's done for Arsenal. Yes, everyone wants to win the Premier League and Champions League. It takes time," he told FourFourTwo.

"He's done incredibly well for the amount of money he's spent – look at Man United, who have spent £250m in two years and have only gone sideways.

"It's not easy at all. Arsenal and Arsene will know when it's time to move on. It'll happen naturally and that's how it should be because he has given so much to the club."

Wenger won seven trophies during his first nine years with the club, but has won just two in the last 11 seasons.
