Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'English players have learned how to dive'

Wenger: 'English players have learned to dive'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that he is keen to see diving disappear from football after claiming that English players have started to 'master' simulation'.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has questioned comments made by Tottenham Hotspur counterpart Mauricio Pochettino, who has claimed that too much focus is being placed on diving.

Last weekend, Dele Alli was booked for simulation in the Premier League fixture with Liverpool and in the aftermath of the incident, Pochettino suggested that the English international did not deserve the level of criticism which he had received.

However, ahead of Saturday's North London derby, Wenger has disagreed with Pochettino, while saying that English players have started to 'master' diving.

At his pre-match press conference, the Frenchman told reporters: "I am convinced he wanted to see tricking your opponent is to be clever. Was it an apology for diving? I'm not sure.

"In my case, no. We want to get diving out of the game. It used to be the foreigners but I must say the English players have learnt very quickly and are maybe the masters now."

Sixth-placed Arsenal sit one place and four points adrift of Spurs in the Premier League standings.
