Arsene Wenger: Victory over Chelsea "one of best performances in recent years"

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Saturday turned into a "great day" for him and the club thanks to a rare victory over rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger has claimed that Saturday's 3-0 victory over Chelsea to mark his 20-year anniversary as Arsenal manager was one of his side's "best performances in recent years".

The Gunners found themselves three goals to the good prior to the interval at the Emirates Stadium thanks to strikes from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil in a dominant display.

It marked Arsenal's first win over Chelsea in five years and their biggest triumph against their their London rivals since April 1997, ensuring that Wenger's latest managerial milestone ended in a positive manner.

"It's one of the games where what we wanted to do worked very well," he told BBC Sport. "It's one of those moments in your life as a manager where you think 'today is a great day'.

"In the second half it was a bit in and out but in the first half we have shown great quality. We played with style, with pace, with movement - and that's the kind of football we want to play. It's one of [the] best performances in recent years."

Arsenal, who are now up to third place in the Premier League table after winning four games in succession, turn their attention to European action in midweek when they take on Basel on home soil.
