Jack Wilshere reveals England captain "dream"

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere reveals that it would be a "dream come true" to one day captain England.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has said that it would be a "dream come true" to one day captain England.

The current skipper Steven Gerrard recently claimed that Wilshere was good enough to succeed him as leader of the national team.

Wilshere responded by admitting that it is something that would represent the fulfilment of a childhood dream.

"It's a kid's dream to captain your country. David Beckham was my role model growing up. It is up to whoever is in charge but that would be a dream come true," Wilshere is quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

"For a young kid like myself growing up and watching the likes of Stevie to get in the team and finally get the caps you realise what you've done, that you have represented your country and made your family and all your friends proud.

"Playing for England is the pinnacle for every English player. Growing up it's what every kid wants to do. You go out in the streets kicking a ball about and you want to be like them. When you get selected for the first time and then get more caps it's amazing."

Wilshere has seven caps for the Three Lions.
