Team News: Vermaelen leads new-look Arsenal

Thomas Vermaelen captains Arsenal as they begin life without Robin van Persie, while Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla are both handed Premier League debuts.

Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla have both been named in Arsenal's starting XI for their Premier League opener against Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.

Fellow new signing Olivier Giroud has been named among the substitutes, while Thomas Vermaelen will wear the captain's armband as expected.

Carlos Cuellar is the only new face among the Black Cats' starters, however Louis Saha is on the bench.
