Arsenal reportedly suffer a blow in their pursuit of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as Lyon offer the 25-year-old a long-term contract.

Arsenal may be forced to look elsewhere in their search for a new shot-stopper after Lyon touched base with the representatives of Ajax's Andre Onana, according to a report.

With uncertainty hanging over the heads of Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson's futures at the club, Mikel Arteta could be in the market for a new number one ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Ajax goalkeeper Onana is still serving a lengthy doping ban until the beginning of November, but the Gunners are thought to be heavily interested in a deal for the 25-year-old nonetheless.

However, French outlet L'Equipe reports that Lyon have already made contact with Onana's entourage to offer him a long-term contract, and the goalkeeper is open to the idea of plying his trade in Ligue 1.

The report adds that Arsenal are not willing to guarantee Onana the number one jersey if Leno remains at the club, but Inter Milan are also in the race as they prepare for life after Samir Handanovic.

Onana - who could supposedly be available for a cut-price figure of €8m (£6.8m) given his contract situation - has won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax since joining from Barcelona's academy in 2015.

The Cameroon international has also kept 83 clean sheets in 204 appearances for the Amsterdam giants, but he is due to become a free agent in under 12 months' time.
