Arsenal will reportedly miss out to Shakhtar Donetsk in the race to sign Corinthians youngster Maycon.

Shakhtar Donetsk have reportedly emerged as favourites to complete the signing of Corinthians youngster Maycon.

The midfielder has spent the past two seasons making an impression back home in Brazil, with eight caps already being won for the Brazil Under-20s side.

According to Sport Mediaset, both Arsenal and Napoli were interested in signing the 20-year-old, but Shakhtar have seemingly won the race for the player.

The report claims that an undisclosed fee has already been agreed between the two clubs, and Maycon will act as a replacement for Fred should his compatriot complete a switch to either Manchester City or Manchester United.

Shakhtar currently have as many as eight Brazilian players in their first-team squad.
