Nuno Tavares is reportedly preparing to travel to London to undergo his medical with Arsenal ahead of a £6.8m move from Benfica.

Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares is reportedly set to complete his medical with Arsenal today.

The 21-year-old is thought to be closing in on a £6.8m switch to Mikel Arteta's side, who are in the market for a new left-back to provide backup and competition to Kieran Tierney.

Now, Portuguese journalist Goncalo Lopes reports that Tavares will travel to the English capital to undergo his medical with Arsenal on Thursday, as he prepares to become the Gunners' first arrival of the summer window.

Arteta was often forced to field Cedric Soares or Granit Xhaka at left-back during Tierney's injury-related absences, while Sead Kolasinac is widely expected to leave the club after falling out of favour.

Tavares featured for Benfica against Arsenal in last season's Europa League, and he is set to depart the Portuguese champions having scored one goal and assisted seven more in 41 appearances since joining as a 15-year-old in 2015.
